| A Novel by Steena Holmes |
Where was her editor?
The idea behind the story was a good one – a therapist suspects that one of her patients is a serial killer. The murderer kills the parents while the children sleep blissfully unaware.
Danielle Rycroft is a therapist working with a small client base. It becomes evident that Danielle has issues of her own which she must battle. Little by little we learn about the history of her patients and their possible connection with the victims or elements of the crime. We watch Danielle unravel as she increasingly suspects that one of her patients is the serial killer but cannot narrow down which one.
It could have made a gripping read if worked differently. The original concept was certainly handled better by Corbet H. Thigpen in The Three Faces of Eve.
I felt the language was too repetitive. The author constantly alludes to how ‘stressed’ Danielle is. And for me the story didn’t get going until halfway through the book although it did get better after that. Having read the blurb and the first page it was obvious to me where this story was going. A good editor could have fixed those issues. I wish I knew who recommended the book to me so as to avoid any further bad choices. This is 6 hours of my life I will never get back.
